Israel Considers Expanding Ground Operations in Lebanon

(MENAFN) The Israeli military is reportedly making preparations to widen its ground operations in Lebanon, pending authorization from the country’s political leadership, according to Israeli media on Monday.

Citing military developments on the ground, reports said the army is positioning itself for a possible escalation despite the existence of a ceasefire arrangement.

“In light of the ceasefire and the ongoing violations by Hezbollah, the Israeli army is already preparing on the ground to expand its ground operations in Lebanon,” according to TV channel.

The broadcaster indicated that the army’s preparations are aimed at enabling an expansion of fighting should political leaders approve further action.

“We are preparing for the possibility that the political echelon will give the green light to expand the operation in Lebanon,” the broadcaster quoted an unnamed Israeli military source as saying.

According to the same reports, three Israeli army divisions are currently active inside Lebanese territory as part of ongoing operations.

The broadcaster also highlighted what it described as growing battlefield challenges, noting that explosive drones have become a significant threat to Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon.

It added that Hezbollah is increasingly relying on explosive drones as a primary tool in the conflict, saying the tactic has led to casualties among Israeli troops and remains difficult to counter effectively on the ground.
