Netanyahu Appears Before Judges for 86th Time

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared Tuesday before the Tel Aviv District Court for the 86th time, facing cross-examination in one of the most prolonged corruption trials in the country's history.

Netanyahu stands accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust across three landmark cases — designated Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000 — with formal indictments dating back to late November 2019.

Israel's Channel 12 reported that prosecutors concluded their questioning of Netanyahu in Case 4000 and moved proceedings into Case 2000. Examination in Case 1000 had already wrapped up in November 2025.

Netanyahu has maintained his innocence throughout the trial, which first opened in 2020. Under Israeli law, a presidential pardon remains off the table unless the defendant formally admits guilt — a step he has refused to take.

The three cases each carry serious allegations. Case 1000 centers on claims that Netanyahu and family members accepted high-value gifts from affluent businessmen in return for political favors. Case 2000 accuses him of striking a backroom deal with Arnon Mozes, publisher of Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, to secure positive press coverage. Case 4000 alleges he extended regulatory benefits to Shaul Elovitch — former owner of Israeli news platform Walla and a former senior figure at telecom giant Bezeq — again in exchange for favorable media treatment.

Beyond Israel's borders, Netanyahu has been subject to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant since 2024, sought on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the ongoing war in Gaza, where more than 72,000 people — predominantly women and children — have been killed since October 2023.
