Chornobyl Exclusion Zone Fire Continues to Burn for Third Day

(MENAFN) A wildfire tearing through the Chornobyl exclusion zone in Kyiv region burned into its third consecutive day Sunday, continuing to spread rapidly across the disaster-stricken landscape amid dry weather conditions and powerful wind gusts, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported.

The blaze has already scorched an estimated 1,200 hectares of land within the heavily restricted zone, prompting authorities to mount a large-scale emergency response. As many as 326 rescue personnel have been deployed to the scene to actively battle the persistent flames on the ground.

Despite the fire's swift and relentless expansion across the exclusion zone — an area already scarred by the catastrophic 1986 nuclear disaster — officials maintained that the situation remained fully under control, with no immediate escalating threat reported to surrounding communities or infrastructure.
