Iran Lawmaker Rejects U.S. Hormuz Role as Ceasefire Breach
(MENAFN) A senior Iranian lawmaker fired a stark warning in the early hours of Monday, declaring that any American attempt to oversee navigation through the Strait of Hormuz would be treated as a direct violation of the ceasefire — flatly rebuffing Washington's bid for a role in the critical waterway.
Ibrahim Azizi, chair of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, drew a hard line in remarks posted to X, stating that "any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire."
Azizi went further, pouring scorn on the notion that Washington could exercise authority over the region's most strategically vital sea lane, asserting that the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf "would not be managed by Trump's delusional posts."
He added a pointed rebuke: "No one would believe Blame Game scenarios!"
The sharp rebuttal came in direct response to comments made by President Donald Trump on Sunday, in which he announced that the United States would take steps to escort vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz through the restricted waters. Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump framed the intervention as an act of goodwill toward nations uninvolved in the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
"For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these countries that we will guide their ships safely out of these restricted waterways," Trump wrote, characterizing the move as a "humanitarian gesture."
