Trump Suggests Iran’s New Supreme Leader May Still Be Alive
During an interview set to be broadcast Friday, Trump shared his view that the Iranian leader had likely survived but may have suffered harm. “I think he probably is. I think he is damaged, but I think he’s probably alive in some form, you know,” he said.
His comments followed Khamenei’s first public statement on Thursday since assuming the country’s top leadership position. In that address, he indicated that Iran would continue its confrontation with the United States and Israel rather than retreat from the ongoing conflict.
Mojtaba Khamenei stepped into the role of supreme leader after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. However, he has not appeared in public since tensions escalated, which has fueled speculation and widespread discussion about his health and current status.
Trump also spoke about the situation surrounding shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical routes for global oil transportation that has recently experienced disruptions.
He suggested that ships seeking passage through the waterway should continue navigating it without hesitation, saying vessels should "go through the strait of Hormuz and show some guts,” according to reports.
Trump further dismissed fears about potential threats in the area, adding, "There's nothing to be afraid of. They have no Navy and we sunk all their ships," he was quoted as saying.
