Trump Dismisses UK Carriers, Accuses Starmer of Late War Involvement

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has stated that the United Kingdom’s aircraft carriers are not needed and accused Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of trying to “join wars after we've already won,” as American and Israeli forces continue airstrikes against Iran.

In a social media post, Trump acknowledged that the UK was “giving serious thought” to sending two carriers to the Middle East but insisted that the US does not “need them.” Downing Street has not issued a response.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed that one of the UK’s two carriers has been placed on advanced readiness. Trump’s remarks followed the arrival of US bomber jets in Britain, as American forces began utilizing UK bases for “specific defensive operations.”

On Truth Social, Trump wrote on Saturday: “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That's OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don't need them any longer - But we will remember. We don't need people that join Wars after we've already won!”

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump reiterated his position on the UK’s involvement, saying: “We don't need them,” referring to the carriers, and adding: “It's not the right time. It would have been nice to have them two weeks ago.”

The UK government has consistently stated that it does not intend to participate in the broader offensive campaign in the Middle East.
