Man in Critical Condition After Shark Attack at Sydney Beaches
Emergency crews rushed to Manly Beach, roughly 10 km northeast of central Sydney, shortly before 6:30 p.m. local time Monday after reports of a shark mauling.
According to News Corp Australia, the man sustained severe injuries to at least one leg and was pulled unconscious from the surf. Intensive care paramedics treated him on the sand as multiple ambulances and a rescue helicopter were dispatched.
Earlier the same day, an 11 year old boy narrowly escaped harm when a shark bit into his surfboard at Dee Why Beach, located 5 km north of Manly.
The incidents followed a separate attack Sunday afternoon in Sydney Harbor, where a 12 year old boy was critically injured. Police confirmed Monday morning that the child remained in intensive care and commended his companions, saying they “pulled him from the water.”
