Syria opens probe into alleged massacre in al-Hasakah by YPG/SDF

(MENAFN) Syrian authorities announce the opening of an investigation into claims of a mass killing reportedly committed by YPG/SDF elements in the northeastern province of al-Hasakah, according to an official statement issued early Monday.

The Interior Ministry says it has “immediately” initiated the required procedures to assess and verify the information received, noting that the allegations are being followed with seriousness and concern.

The decision comes after reports circulated widely on social media alleging that a massacre had taken place in al-Hasakah and attributing responsibility to YPG/SDF forces. Officials say the purpose of the inquiry is to establish whether the claims are accurate.

The development follows an announcement made Sunday by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa regarding a comprehensive Ceasefire and Full Integration Agreement between the government and the SDF, which outlines steps aimed at reasserting state authority across northeastern Syria.

The SDF is led by the YPG, which is identified as the Syrian offshoot of the PKK, designated as a terrorist organization.
