Ben-Gvir makes another controversial incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque
A brief statement from the Islamic Endowments Directorate in Jerusalem noted that Ben-Gvir visited the mosque compound in the afternoon, accompanied by Israeli police forces.
Incursions by Ben-Gvir are typically carried out without prior public announcement. Israeli ministers are generally required to obtain advance approval from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office before entering the Al-Aqsa compound.
Since taking office in early 2023, Ben-Gvir has reportedly entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque around 14 times. Tuesday’s visit marks his first incursion into the site in 2026.
The extremist minister has continued such provocations despite repeated condemnations from Arab, Islamic, and international actors.
Since 2003, Israeli police have reportedly permitted illegal Israeli settlers to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The Islamic Endowments Directorate in Jerusalem has repeatedly denounced these incursions and called for them to stop, without receiving a response from Israeli authorities.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, illegal Israeli settlers conducted 280 incursions into the Al-Aqsa compound during 2025 alone.
A senior official from the Islamic Endowments Directorate, speaking on condition of anonymity, said more than 65,364 extremist settlers entered the flashpoint site last year.
