A statement from the UK Prime Minister's office confirmed the leaders addressed efforts to conclude the war in Ukraine during an afternoon telephone exchange Sunday.
"The Prime Minister updated on work by the Coalition of the Willing to support any peace deal and ensure a just and lasting end to the hostilities," it added.
The conversation followed Starmer's role as co-chair of a virtual Coalition of the Willing session last week, where participants determined this represents a critical juncture for Ukraine, its citizens, and collective security throughout the Euro-Atlantic area.
The leaders additionally reviewed developments in Gaza, where Israeli military operations have claimed over 71,000 Palestinian lives since October 2023.
Despite a ceasefire implemented on October 10, Israel continues breaching terms by restricting medical aid convoy access below agreed levels, exacerbating what health authorities characterize as an acute and persisting healthcare crisis.
The statement revealed that Starmer also briefed on the designation of Christian Turner as the new British Ambassador to the US, noting the appointment would strengthen bilateral ties between the nations.
The British government named Turner on Thursday as the incoming British ambassador to the US, succeeding Peter Mandelson, who was dismissed in September following scrutiny over his associations with deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
