UK Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly
This represents a modest increase compared to the 4.7% recorded from May to June, and a more noticeable rise from the 4.1% seen in the same timeframe last year, according to data from the ONS.
As of the end of August, approximately 1.7 million individuals in the UK were without work.
The ONS figures highlight a growing number of people facing unemployment amid economic fluctuations.
The rate of economic inactivity—referring to people not actively seeking employment—was approximated at 21% for the June to August period, the ONS stated.
This metric reflects a significant portion of the population currently not participating in the labor market.
In terms of workforce changes, the number of payrolled workers across the country decreased by 93,000, or 0.3%, in August compared to the same month the previous year.
However, there was a slight month-on-month rise, with 10,000 more individuals joining the payroll compared to July.
