Trump criticizes ABC for getting back Jimmy Kimmel’s show
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump criticized ABC on Tuesday for allowing Jimmy Kimmel to resume his late-night show, accusing the network of favoring Democrats and hinting at possible legal action, according to reports.
“I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back, The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He questioned Kimmel’s viewership and labeled the host as “another arm of the DNC (Democratic National Committee),” suggesting that his platform effectively constitutes an “illegal campaign contribution.”
Trump also indicated plans to pursue the matter legally, recalling that a prior lawsuit against ABC had awarded him $16 million. “This one sounds even more lucrative,” he said, adding: “Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad ratings.”
Kimmel, 56, had been suspended the previous week after remarks about the alleged assassin of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. On his show, he criticized the “MAGA gang” for exploiting the incident politically.
Upon returning to air Tuesday, Kimmel appeared emotional as he clarified his statements. “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it,” he said.
“Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual -- that was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make,” Kimmel added.
