China Signals Readiness to Expand International Security Ties
“We stand ready to work with all parties to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, strengthen international security cooperation, uphold the principles of UN Charter to build a world of peace, development and universal security,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian declared in Beijing.
The statement came as Lin Jian addressed questions about nations potentially turning to China for defense partnerships after Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari committed to deepening military relations with Beijing. This development follows Israel’s airstrikes in Doha, which exposed cracks in US security assurances.
Despite the US-Qatar alliance and their mutual security commitments, Israel targeted Hamas officials in Doha—who were reportedly meeting to consider a US ceasefire proposal—with an airstrike.
Beijing’s approach, Lin emphasized, “advocates the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.”
During a 10-day visit to China, Zardari toured the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) facility in Chengdu, where he lauded the Chinese-made fighter jets on display.
Beyond Pakistan, multiple countries—especially across the Middle East—are increasingly seeking to diversify their defense partnerships, edging away from reliance on the US and forging closer security ties with Beijing.
