Clash with TTP Militants Kills 12 Soldiers in Pakistan
(MENAFN) At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a fierce gun battle with militants in northwestern Pakistan, the country’s military confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
The military’s media wing reported that 35 militants, linked to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were killed during two separate operations conducted between September 10 and 13.
In the first operation, which took place in Bajaur district, 22 militants were neutralized. The second clash, in South Waziristan, saw the loss of 12 soldiers and the deaths of 13 militants.
Both operations involved the "Fitna al Khwarij," a term used by the military to refer to the TTP, according to the statement.
Militant violence has surged in Pakistan in recent years, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of not doing enough to prevent TTP operatives from using Afghan soil to launch attacks on Pakistan. However, Afghanistan has consistently denied these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to preventing any cross-border attacks.
