Syria, Turkey, Jordan plan to strengthen Regional Cooperation

(MENAFN) Senior officials from Syria, Türkiye, and Jordan convened in Amman on Friday to strengthen regional cooperation and discuss joint transportation initiatives.

The meeting focused on expanding road and rail networks, facilitating border crossings, and promoting regional economic integration, according to reports. Transportation ministry representatives from all three countries attended the trilateral talks.

Syrian Deputy Minister of Transport Muhammad Omar Rahal highlighted the strategic location of Syria, Jordan, and Türkiye as a natural bridge connecting East to West and North to South. He emphasized that this position offers significant opportunities for economic and trade integration, investment attraction, and increased intra-regional commerce. Rahal called for the activation of land and rail connectivity projects, particularly the historic Hijaz Railway, and stressed the need to overcome obstacles to transit movement while developing infrastructure.

Rahal described the partnership among the three nations as a strategic necessity, noting Syria’s interest in revitalizing key border crossings, such as Nassib-Jaber and Bab al-Hawa, and enhancing railway lines including the Hijaz Railway.
