Medvedev Insults Macron
Medvedev firmly restated Moscow’s opposition to the idea, emphasizing that Russia had already made its stance “explicitly stated.”
He also directed a personal jab at a key advocate of the plan, describing him as a “brainless Gallic rooster.”
Medvedev, who previously served as the President of Russia, argued that the person in question could not seem to let go of the notion of deploying NATO troops in Ukraine.
He added, “But the hoarse, pathetic bird continues to crow to prove it's king of the coop,” implying continued persistence despite opposition.
While he refrained from naming anyone directly, the disparaging language appeared to be aimed at Emmanuel Macron, the President of France.
The Russian official’s comments emerged at a time when intense diplomatic activity is underway, led by US President Donald Trump, who has been working to broker a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict that has persisted for nearly three and a half years.
Last week, President Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska for a high-level summit aimed at advancing peace efforts.
Following that, the US leader welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a group of European heads of state to the White House on Monday.
The discussions focused on future diplomatic strategies, including the possibility of offering security guarantees to Kyiv.
