Shark Attack Kills Man in Western Australia Coast

(MENAFN) According to reports, a 38-year-old man has died after being attacked by a 13ft (4m) shark in Western Australia.

Police said the incident occurred on Saturday shortly before 10:00 (02:00 GMT) at Horseshoe Reef, located north-west of the popular Rottnest Island near Perth.

Aerial footage reportedly showed the man being transported by boat to shore, where paramedics and police carried out CPR at the Geordie Bay jetty, as stated by reports.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly the man was unable to be revived.”

Authorities confirmed this is the first fatal shark attack in Western Australia since March last year, when a surfer was killed off a remote beach.

Perth’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development told a media outlet that the man was believed to have been bitten by a great white shark, and urged the public to exercise “additional caution” in waters around the area.

Since records began in 1791, Australia has recorded nearly 1,300 shark attacks, with more than 260 resulting in fatalities, according to reports.
